The Loong Boat Festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month is one of the three major folk festivals in China. There are different opinions about the origin of Loong Boat Festival. The widely circulated folk belief is to commemorate the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan in ancient times. Qu Yuan was born in the state of Chu during the Warring States period more than two thousand years ago, and was once a left disciple of Chu (second only to the position of prime minister). Due to the King of Chu’s favoritism towards treacherous and treacherous people, his belief in slander, and his political corruption, when the capital of Chu was conquered by Qin, Qu Yuan was unable to save the situation and deeply felt that his political ideals could not be realized. He jumped into the Miluo River in present-day Hunan Province with a stone on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 278 BC and died. It is said that after Qu Yuan threw himself into the river, the body never came up. In order to protect the body from dragons, shrimps and crabs, local fishermen packed many Zongzi and threw them into the river. Later, eating Zongzi during the Dragon Boat Festival gradually formed a stable custom.
